I still have in my stash a certain amount of Coshocton - Upper Mercer chert. Some I collected myself on a trip to Ohio many years ago, and some I bought at the Flint Ridge knap-in. I've never tried to heat treat the stuff and heat might ruin it. After being picked over what I have left are the tougher, more difficult to work pieces that take extra time and are hard on the tools and my body. The better material is the black Coshocton variety while the grey mottled is the worst of which I have more of. No matter which I used all the points I have made and posted here are flawless, classic types, therefore given the time and effort that went into them they will be a bit higher in price.
